Rehabilitation Pilates Specialists

Pilates was originally developed by Joseph H. Pilates as a new approach to exercise and body-conditioning. As one of the first to combine Western and Eastern ideas about health and physical fitness, Pilates combined research of classical Roman and Greek exercise regimes, body-building and gymnastics, yoga, tai chi, martial arts, meditation, anatomy and movement.

Opening his first studio in New York, the method which he originally called; ‘Controlology’ quickly became popular with professional dancers who found Pilates to be the best way both to improve technique, recover from and prevent prevent injuries. Over almost 100 years since, the Pilates method has evolved and found a wider audience.

Classically trained dancers Andrew and Kim Baxter both enjoyed international careers before opening their first Pilates studio in 1990 in Melbourne exclusively to train students of the Australian Ballet School. Drawing on their years of experience and training, Body Concept has grown into two studios with the same focus on movement and rehabilitation. Body Concept has built its reputation through referrals from Melbourne’s health and rehabilitation professionals, working with clients of all ages on rehabilitation whilst increasing fitness, movement and flexibility.

Today, Body Concept Pilates offers personalised shared Pilates sessions with programs designed for rehabilitation, injury prevention and to maintain freedom of movement and physical condition. All Body Concept Pilates sessions are facilitated by Kim and Andrew at their two studio locations in Richmond and South Melbourne.
